About
Us:
This centre exists to promote overall wellbeing through
the study of Iyengar Yoga. The studio, establshed in 1993, provides
a quiet, welcoming, well-equipped space.
The Iyengar System of Yoga
The
regular practice of Iyengar yoga leads to optimal physical and mental
health. It is named for B.K.S. Iyengar, of Pune, India, who developed,
refined and shared this methodology.
It uses a precise, systematic approach whereby students
learn a series of yoga postures in a well- planned order, and synchronize
these postures with their breathing. These yoga postures help to
exercise, strengthen, balance and cleanse every system of the body:
musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, immune, digestive, nervous and
respiratory. Students concentrate intently, drawing their attention
inward. This concentration quiets and integrates their minds and
bodies.
Iyengar yoga is versatile. It can be adapted to suit all ages and
levels of fitness. Many students use it to maintain and enhance
their existing health. Others seek it to help them manage and improve
chronic or acute conditions, especially in therapeutic classes and
workshops.

Marilyn
Prange
Four study trips to RIMYI, India
Marilyn Prange, a certified yoga
teacher in the lyengar System of Hatha Yoga has been practicing
yoga since 1976 and teaching it since 1983. Marilyn knew that she
wanted to teach yoga from her first class and completed three years
of instructor training in Toronto, where she earned her certificate.
Marilyn's life experiences have taken her to India
to work with her guru B. K. S. Iyengar, Geetaji, & Prashantji.
She was fortunate to be able to travel to India to study four times
and is extremely grateful for the exceptional opportunity and gift.
In 1992, 1997, 2000 and 2005 Marilyn travelled to Pune, India to
the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute to study with B.K.S.
Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar, and Prashant Iyengar. In June, 1998, Marilyn
was awarded a National Iyengar Yoga Teaching Certificate:
Junior Intermediate Level 1. In 2001 Marilyn was awarded
a National Iyengar Yoga Teaching Certificate: Junior Intermediate
Level 2.
She works closely with her students, pushing to broaden
their limits and gain the maximum benefits of practicing yoga. Marilyn
finds that her yoga practice and study has increased her inner strength
and helps to alleviate her chronic back pain.
Individual Attention
Classes are small -- rarely larger than 10 students.
The instructor is able to check that each person is aligned in the
yoga pose correctly to avoid injury and optimize the benefits.
Superb Equipment
The studio has a wooden floor, important for helping yoga students
to become grounded. There are an array of yoga props such as blocks,
bolsters, and belts. These props assist and support in a multitude
of ways.
Wardrobe
Clothing needs to be flexible to allow bending and stretching, and
snug enough to let the instructor observe whether the body is aligned
properly in the poses. Feet are bare.
